It’s important to keep a few design basics in mind when designing your own sign or working with our designer to create one for you.
- Allow for some space around your text in order to make it easier to read (meaning, don’t run your text all the way to edges of your signage).
- Stick to basic fonts for better readability. Avoid overuse of those that are cursive or over embellished.
- Use light colors on dark background and dark colors on light backgrounds.
- Use contrasting colors (e.g. red on white, black on white, white on blue, blue on yellow) to help your sign and your message stand out.
- Remember that colors can affect and instill feelings. In general, reds and oranges put people on alert. Blues and greens are shown to be more soothing. Yellows and fluorescents are exciting. It’s important to choose colors that reinforce your message.
Submitting your artwork to Sign-A-Rama:
- Vector artwork is best, as these types of images retain their integrity (don’t get blurry) when blown up to larger sizes. This includes files types such as: EPS (Encapsulated Postscript), AI (Adobe Illustrator), and CDR (Coreldraw).
- Raster artwork is acceptable, as long as the pixel per inch (ppi) is above 300. Any ppi below that will result in a low-quality, blurry image when enlarged. Raster file formats include: BMP, JPG, PSD (Adobe Photoshop), TIFF, and PDF.
